What are ingrown toenails?
When a toenail grows painfully into the nail fold, and this can commonly lead to infection. People with diabetes and other diseases that affect the nerves or circulation are at a greater risk of developing these infections.
What causes ingrown toenails?
Ingrown toenails can develop after injuries of the toe, wearing uncomfortable shoes, improperly cutting your toenail, or having unusually curved toenails.
What is the treatment?
Depending on the severity of your condition, the nail may be lifted if it is only slightly ingrown, the nail may be partially removed it is more severely ingrown, and if the problem reoccurs, surgically removing the portion of the nail along with the nail bed to prevent further recurrence can be recommended.
