What is a Lisfranc Fracture?
Defined as “injury of the foot in which one or more of the metatarsal bones are displaced from the tarsus”. This injury has been in the media recently as Santonio Holmes of the New York Jets, sustained this, putting him out for a season and requiring surgery.
What causes Lisfranc Fractures?
Lisfranc fractures can occur as a consequence of a slip or a fall, twisting during athletic activity, an unfortunate misstep, or direct trauma.
What is the treatment?
Depending on the severity of the fracture, a cast, and careful activity modification may be used to recover successfully. However, surgical intervention is needed for more severe cases.
