Hammertoe

What are hammertoes?

Have you noticed that one or more of your toes is permanently bent downward, almost claw-like? Then you most probably have hammertoes. It’s most common in the second toe, but it can in fact occur on any toe.

What causes hammertoes?

Hammertoes can occur if you have unusually high foot arches or arthritis. It may also happen if you’ve had traumatic toe injury, wear shoes that don’t fit properly, suffer from tightened ligaments and tendons in the foot, or experience pressure from a bunion.

How do we treat hammertoes?

Treatment is based on the severity of your condition. We might recommend cushions pads, properly fitted shoes and custom orthotics combined with daily exercises to alleviate symptoms. In some cases, we might recommend surgery to correct the condition. Let’s talk about your options.
